Play a Serious Game

Playing computer games can be a lot of fun, but you can also learn a lot from playing them and develop your English too. Today's activity uses an online role-playing game about life in a Nepalese village to help you develop your reading and vocabulary.

You play the game by clicking on the screen to move your character around and clicking on different objects to find and complete tasks. The aim of the game is for your character. To help her mother make enough money to buy a goat so that she can send you to school.

Task:
  • Go to: http://www.forgefx.com/casestudies/heifer/heifer-village/ and wait for the game to upload in your browser.
  • Once the game is uploaded click on 'Start' and read what you have to do. To find each of your tasks you have to click on your mother. Be sure to read the tasks carefully.

  • Move around the village can collect the things you need. You can move easily by clicking where you want to go on the screen.
  • Using the map will help you find the places you need to go.
If you would like to find out more about the company that created this game and how it helps people, look at http://www.heifer.org/

I hope you enjoyed playing thiss game. More EFL ESL activities tomorrow.

This link seems to be dead. Too bad, it looks like an engaging way to work on one's English skills.

I've updated the link so it should work now.
